How to get to CERN

Coming from the Geneva International Airport at Cointrin

By taxi - approximately 40CHF (15-20 min).

By the free CERN airport Shuttle : see schedule and information

By Bus. First take a free public transport ticket from the machine you will find at the exit to the baggage collection hall, just before customs control.

·         Option 1: Take bus Y direction "CERN" and get off at the CERN stop opposite the large Globe and the CERN site.

·         Option 2: take bus 23/28/57, and get off at the stop "Blandonnet" and then catch the Tram number 18, final stop "CERN".

Coming from the Geneva railway station at Cornavin

By Tram - Take the tram number 18 to "CERN" which is the final stop at the CERN entrance. The ticket costs 3.50CHF (Ticket “Tout Genève” on the ticket machine).

Visa & Insurance

Visa

Based on your nationality, you may need a visa: see here for the conditions concerning Switzerland and here for France. A visa to Switzerland is enough if you plan to come to CERN and/or stay in Geneva hotels. A visa to France is necessary if your hotel is located across the border. If you need an invitation letter for your visa, please contact the Workshop Secretariat.

Insurance

In accordance with the CERN Staff Rules and Regulations, your social insurance cover is the responsibility of your employer or of the educational institution at which you are normally enrolled.

If you do not have this kind of insurance covering you in both Switzerland and France, you are under the strict obligation to take the necessary measures to safeguard yourself against the economic consequences of illness, accidents and disability throughout your stay at CERN. This obligation also applies to any family members who may be accompanying you.
